Middle School Electives
Gateway’s middle school electives program provides a variety of dynamic course offerings in all areas of the curriculum. Elective courses and clubs enrich the school’s academic program, and allow older students choice in learning.
Electives Schedule
The schedule is based on the quarter system, and students enroll in two electives per quarter. A required balance of electives allows students a wide range of choice while ensuring enrollment in required subject areas. Selecting courses, fulfilling requirements, and following through with elective courses are important steps in personal responsibility and preparation for high school.
Electives Courses
Classes are taught by Gateway teachers and outside specialists, maintaining a high level of instruction. Goals and objectives for each course are provided to ensure the student engagement and commitment necessary for a successful and rewarding experience. Some courses include transportation to off-campus locations (for example, golf and rock climbing).
Some examples of elective course offerings:
- Acrylic Painting
- French
- Yearbook
- Acting on Camera
- Video Composition and Editing
- Beach Volleyball
- Jazz Dance
- Cooking

Electives Clubs
Students may choose to participate in elective clubs, which continue for two quarters and allow for deeper learning in a particular area. Enrollment in elective clubs is noted on student report cards and is of interest to prospective high schools. Eligible students receive certificates of accomplishment.
