Thank you for taking the time to learn about Gateway School. Our school was founded in 1970 by a local educator, Hannelore Herbig, who understood that by sustaining a child’s natural curiosity, one would create a lifelong passion for learning. For over forty years, it has been our mission to ensure that our students are inspired, encouraged, and challenged by our talented faculty so that they are prepared to make a meaningful impact on the world around them.

When you enter our campus, you will notice that our children are engaged with their surroundings, their teachers, their peers, and their own learning. From studying habitats and silk worms, to playing Orff instruments, to researching and building kelp forests, to learning about light and composition in art class, to delivering their 8th grade graduation speech in front of family and friends, Gateway children relish their experiences inside and outside the classroom as opportunities to explore, grow, and discover.

Our students work alongside a supportive staff of dedicated adults to help them develop the skills, habits, and knowledge necessary to flourish in the future. Our teachers ensure that each student is known, loved, and encouraged to give her best. Our parents help their children find opportunities for success that build resilience and an appreciation of our differences. Our community understands that a commitment to play, discovery, recreation, and engagement will lead to a life of thoughtful inquiry and an approach to learning that is active, participatory, and enduring.

Gateway School is an exemplary place for children to grow and to learn (I am admittedly biased as my two children attend the school). I thank you for considering Gateway School; after you tour the website I invite you to visit our campus to discover first hand the rich opportunities that await your child and your family.

I look forward to seeing you on campus soon.

Sincerely,

Percy L. Abram, PhD
Head of School
