Welcome From the Head
As our world grows more complex and uncertain, the job of parenting becomes increasingly complicated. We are faced with the challenge of preparing our children for future successes while preserving in them a sense of play, hope, and wonder. Schools sometimes ask parents to sit on one side of an imaginary fence and choose between a nurturing learning environment and preparing children for the rigors of a 21st century world. For nearly four decades, Gateway School has flourished because of our reluctance to define strong educational practice as an either-or proposition. We have built our rich academic and extra-curricular programs with the belief in each child’s potential and inspired by passion for learning inside of the classroom and within our communities.
Our educational mission and practice engages students with their environment and with the adults that work with them daily to develop the skills, habits, and outlook necessary to flourish in the future. Our teachers ensure that each student approaches every new endeavor with confidence and purpose, and feeling comfortable making mistakes, making changes, and ultimately making a difference in the world around them.
In our partnership with parents, we have created a community that values students’ unique interests and approaches to learning. Together we help students find opportunities for success that build resilience, an appreciation for our differences, and an environment of mutual respect. Our students understand that a commitment to play, discovery, recreation, and engagement will lead to a life of thoughtful inquiry and an approach to learning that is active, participatory, and enduring.
Gateway School is an exemplary place for children to grow and to learn. I hope that you will take the time to explore these pages and to learn more about our school and our students. If you have any questions, or would like to visit the school, please feel free to contact our enrollment office. I am certain that you will enjoy the enthusiasm and energy of this wonderful community as much as I do.
I look forward to seeing you on campus soon.
Warm Regards,
Percy L. Abram, PhD
Head of School
