Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe that this will be the last newsletter of 2019.  The 2019-2020 school year is flying by. It’s a good time to look back on some of the fun we’ve had in these first few months.  Words that come to mind to describe our activities in no particular order:

Math Challenges, Weekend News, Cursive, Reading, Scholastic News, National Geographic, Poetry, Friendships, Recess, Brain Breaks, Morning Exercise, Class Charter and Meetings, Healthy Brain Foods, Sketchbooks and Read Aloud, Activity Time, Games, Puzzles, the Cozy Corner, Quiet Reading, Spelling and more spelling, River Day, the River Day field trip, watercolor painting along the river using river water, San Lorenzo River water samples, seeing crayfish in the river, making movies with Krissie, Spanish with Ana, Art with Emily, P.E. with Brandt, yummy salsa with Caprice, and the list goes on and on.

I am having such a fun time with this motivated, compassionate group of students.  This week I will be bringing in samples of foods that are good for the brain, including salmon, blueberries and dark chocolate.  We will study and enjoy these treats on Thursday.

There is much to look forward to as we head into 2020. We will study crayfish and learn about their many wetland habitats, including our river.  We will expand our learning as we read, write and explore in many new areas.  We will study about the genre of biography and learn to read for information, take notes and write simple reports.  We will read, study and play.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday.  I excitedly await all the learning that will take place in our classroom community in 2020.

Please note: Caprice is sending home a weather interview assignment today that is due by January 10th.  PLEASE REMEMBER TO PROVIDE A STANDARD SIZE CAN FOR A LIFE LAB PROJECT THIS WEEK if you have not already done so.

Happy New Year! Julie
