In Before and After Care we provide enrichment through crafts, projects, specialty classes through our After School Enrichment Program that allows students to explore new subjects, oversee fun and engaging physical fitness activities through games and athletics, and we offer help with homework when necessary. We maintain a staff-to-student ratio that allows our staff to work with the students to promote socio-emotional growth, and actively facilitate conflict resolution. Our enthusiastic staff engages children to get them excited about being a part of the larger Gateway community; in our After School Care program students form lasting friendships and relax in a warm and family-like environment.
After School Enrichment Program
Gateway School’s After School Enrichment program is currently on hold due to Santa Cruz County’s Shelter in Place order.
Gateway School’s After School Enrichment Program includes a variety of specialty classes that can complement After School Care (ASC) or be taken individually. The cost of each class includes child care coverage from the student’s dismissal time until the end of their class. Students remaining on campus after their class ends will be checked into ASC until a parent/guardian arrives for pick up.

The Middle School Athletics program is offered to students in 5th through 8th grades. Summer at Camp Gateway
Our traditional Camp Gateway has been postponed until summer 2021 due to the County of Santa Cruz Health Services Agency’s shelter in place order. We look forward to serving the larger summer camp community in 2021. Until then, Camp Gateway wishes everyone a healthy and safe summer!
This past summer we offered TWO programs for Gateway families, with a variety of fun and engaging options, including academic support and enrichment classes!
Virtual Camp: Weekday Mornings
Our incredible faculty — including Alli, Brandt, David, Emily, Lynn, Melanie, and Michael — taught programs ranging from Silly Song Sing-Alongs (Grades 1/2) to Comics, Cartoons, and Characters (Grades 3/4) to New Wave Board Games (Grades 5/6) to Improv 101 (Grades 7/8). We offered 19 different classes so there’s sure to be something for everyone.
Virtual Camp was offered at no charge for families already enrolled in the 2020-21 school year.

Ultimate Recess Camp
Ultimate Recess Summer Camp was available to families enrolled at Gateway and was held outside on our nine-acre campus, with spaces for toys and games, art, active play, and hanging out in one-week sessions and followed the county’s newest shelter-in-place order that allows summer camps to operate with specific health guidelines.
