Before and After Care

Gateway School is committed to offering high quality, affordable Before and After School Care to Gateway families and students that both reflects the school’s mission and reinforces its core principles. The quality of our program is reflected in the range of activities we present, the attention we give to the social and emotional lives of children, and the feeling of belonging and acceptance that all children experience while in After School Care. We provide enrichment through crafts, projects and specialty classes that allow students to explore new subjects; oversee fun and engaging physical fitness activities through games and athletics; and offer help with homework when necessary. We maintain staff-to-student ratio that allows our staff to work with the students to promote socio-emotional growth, and actively facilitate conflict resolution. Our enthusiastic staff engage children to get them excited about being a part of the larger Gateway community; in our After School Care program students form lasting friendships and relax in a warm and family-like environment.

Before School care begins at 7:30 a.m. and is free of charge. The After School Care (ASC) program runs from 2:30p.m. – 5:30 p.m. At 3:00, ASC gathers at the picnic tables for role call and a healthy snack. At 3:30 students are provided the options of an organized field activity outside as well as an indoor craft or project! Free play is always a given and homework help is offered whenever possible.

Staff provide students with another light snack at 5:00pm and ASC ends promptly at 5:30pm.

After School Enrichment Program (ASEP)

In addition to After School Care, Gateway offers an After School Enrichment Program (ASEP), which includes a variety of specialty classes that can complement After School Care or be taken individually. The cost of each class includes child care coverage from the student’s dismissal time until the end of their class. Students remaining on campus after their class ends will be checked into ASC until parent/guardian arrives for pick up. For information on how to sign up for these specialty classes visit our After School Enrichment Program page.

Fifth grade students are encouraged to participate in our after school Middle School athletics program. Gateway is a member of the Santa Cruz County Private Schools Association (SCCPSA). The league consists of fourteen private schools stretching from Santa Cruz to Watsonville. Games are played both at home and away.

In accordance with league guidelines, Gateway offers co-ed teams in Flag Football and Cross Country, Girls Basketball and Boys Basketball, and Girls Volleyball and Boys Volleyball. Teams meet three or four times after school each week for practice and games. More information can be found at the Middle School Athletics page.
