June 3

Dear Families,

I can’t believe that this is the last week of third grade. Thank you for supporting your children this year. As a teacher I have felt your support and I am grateful.  This has been an amazing year of growth and learning.  I am truly inspired by you all.

Please look for “THE BAG” going home with your child today.  The bag will be filled with important materials from third grade.  We will keep Sketchbooks and the contents of pencil boxes through Wednesday.

You will find this year’s Bridges Math Books in today’s bag. Our first year of the Bridges math program was a big learning year for all of us, adults included. Your child had two different math books throughout the year: Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the student workbook. We practiced different skills daily, analyzed the patterns developing in our Number Corner, worked individually and collaboratively in the student books, and often played games to reinforce learning. This year, we did not get through all of the units – you’ll see that we stopped at a certain point in Volume 2. You will also notice that we did not do every single page; most – but not all – have been corrected. We prioritized working side by side with your child, and through our formal and informal assessments, tracked and monitored progress. Please feel free to have your child work in these over the summer to practice and keep skills fresh. Please also note that there will be some pages that they cannot complete due to knowledge and materials, and that is OK. They get to look forward to learning these new concepts and skills next year!

The cursive book that is going home is also a work in progress.  Your child is welcome to work on it this summer, if that fits into your plans.
