It’s hard to believe that this is the last newsletter of our third grade year together. Thank you for being such wonderful and supportive parents all year; I will miss every one of your children and feel so fortunate to have had this chance to get to know them all. I look forward to watching them grow and develop in fourth grade and beyond!
Bags of school work will go home tomorrow. Here is a note about the math journals you’ll find in your child’s bag:
Our first year of the Bridges math program was a big learning year for all of us, adults included. Your child had two different math books throughout the year: Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the student workbook. We practiced different skills daily, analyzed the patterns developing in our Number Corner, worked individually and collaboratively in the student books, and often played games to reinforce learning. This year, we did not get through all of the units – you’ll see that we stopped at a certain point in Volume 2. You will also notice that we did not do every single page; most – but not all – have been corrected. We prioritized working side by side with your child, and through our formal and informal assessments, tracked and monitored their progress. Please feel free to have your child work in these over the summer to practice and keep skills fresh. Please also note that there will be some pages that they cannot complete due to knowledge and materials, and that is OK. They get to look forward to learning these new concepts and skills next year!
This week, we are balancing regular class time with end-of-year reflection activities. On Wednesday, we’ll be playing a game to see how much we can remember from each person’s biography report.
On Thursday, we’ll have a day full of special events:
9:00 – 9:45 Step-Up Ceremony outside
9:45 – 10:15 Third grade students will visit fourth grade!
*We’ll have time together in our classroom in the middle of the day*
1:00 – 2:45 Eighth Grade Graduation Ceremony
(NOTE: During the ceremony, I will be sitting with my family since my son is graduating this year. Tina Clarke will be sitting with our class)
2:45 Cake and lemonade for all
Please say goodbye at the end of the day on Thursday! Third graders can keep the red Gateway t-shirts they will be wearing that day (I’ll hand them out in the morning).
Have a wonderful summer!
With much gratitude,
