David has been a classroom teacher and independent
school administrator for thirty-five years. He taught
in public schools in England and Newton, Massachusetts
before moving, as a third grade teacher, Shady Hill
School in Cambridge, Mass. He has been an assistant
head and division head before having his first
headship at the Waterford School, a new school in
Sandy, Utah. From there he moved to St. Richard’s
School, a Pre-K through Grade 8 Episcopal school in
Indianapolis. He came to Gateway in the summer of
2001.
In addition to his focus on leadership in elementary
education David has been involved in Independent
School organizations, founding the first Independent
School organization in the State of Utah. He has also
been involved in accrediting schools in all the
organizations to which his schools have been
associated. In Maryland he helped write the materials
used in elementary school accreditation by the
Association of Independent Maryland Schools.
David is also a storyteller having told in many venues
including schools, theatres, re-enactments and on the
radio.
