Experience Julie grew up in a family of educators in southern California. She attended Cal State Northridge from 1975 to 1978 while working as a teaching assistant at Valley Alternative School. In the fall of 1978, she moved to Santa Cruz and, along with her studies, worked as a teacher at the Louden Nelson preschool. She took classes at Cabrillo while pursuing a teaching credential at UCSC. As part of her teaching preparation, Julie worked as a special education T.A. at Natural Bridges Elementary School and did her student teaching at Gault.
"What interests me most about education is the opportunity to facilitate and support the growth of my students," Julie says. "I'm excited by the intellectual environment of Gateway, which nurtures and accepts divergent ways of thinking and creates avenues for the excitement of learning to be in the forefront. I think the world will benefit from the passion that is nurtured in the students at this school and I am honored to be a part of this community."
When she's not teaching, Julie can be found hiking, singing, playing guitar and enjoying her family, which includes her husband, Eric, and son, Nathan, who is a Gateway School graduate.
