May 20th Newsletter

Dear Families,

Thank you for supporting your child through the business report, from scheduling the interview to editing the first draft! This is a substantial long-term project and your children were beaming with pride when they brought in their final reports. They have shared with the class and received many compliments from their peers!

Tomorrow morning, Naomi’s father David will be sharing his most recent book with the third graders.

On Wednesday, Tina will be my sub while I call students out to the hall to read aloud to me as part of our end-of-year reading assessments.

Thursday is a big day, since we’ll be walking to the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf. Many of you signed up to join us — this is a very special trip and our last field trip of the year. If you would still like to join us, you are most welcome! Please make sure your child has a picnic snack and lunch, as we’ll be eating both on the wharf. Water, a hat, and an extra layer are also important. We will depart at 10:15 a.m. and return by approximately 1:15 p.m. Here is our plan:

10:15 – 10:45 Walk to the Wharf

10:45 Eat snack by the Marcella fishing boat

11:00 Meet Jon Bonbaci, Wharf Manager, to hear about its history and how it is maintained on a day-to-day basis

11:30 Explore the wharf, visit the sea lions

12:00 Eat picnic lunch

12:20/12:30 Go to Riva’s for GELATO

12:45 Walk back to Gateway

1:15 Arrive at school

On Friday afternoon, the Walkathon will take place from 1:15 – 2:15 p.m. If your child has any pledges, please make sure those are returned to me by Friday.

Have a wonderful week!
