Middle School Spanish

At Gateway School, we recognize the importance of second language acquisition, and we teach Spanish from kindergarten through 8th grade. In the Middle School we use high school curricula that are middle school friendly to build proficiency in grammar and vocabulary and explore the geography and cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. Our students graduate from eighth grade prepared for Spanish II or III in ninth grade.

While developing the four skills of language learning – listening, speaking, reading and writing –  there is greater emphasis on grammatical structures.  The curriculum is further supplemented with enrichment projects  to build mastery of the language such as:

  • Spanish Language Music
  • Cultural Project Research
  • Video Making
  • Guided Independent Writing
  • Spanish Games
  • Mini Novels
  • Oral Presentations
  • Flag and Map Making
  • Book Making
  • Field Trips
  • Pen Pals
  • Skits/Drama
  • In-depth research projects
  • Cultural outings
