Research supports the effectiveness of a kindergarten through eighth grade school where children go from being curious 5 year olds to confident, poised and articulate young adults. Our small class size and low teacher-to-student ratio promotes strong and enduring relationships between our teachers and students. In the classroom, on the athletic field, on class trips, or on the playground, our students are surrounded by supportive adults who truly know them and guide them on their 9 year journey of social-emotional growth and academic achievement.
One of Gateway’s goals is to raise socially responsible citizens. This is beautifully expressed in the culture of compassion at our school. Our character education program, VOICES, provides a guiding framework for this culture. Gateway’s mission promotes respect for others, inclusivity, and personal integrity and responsibility.
Gateway’s elementary program is a nurturing and supportive environment in which children are encouraged to take risks, to embrace failure as a means to future success, and to take on new challenges with a sense of play, passion, and purpose.
Gateway’s Middle School provides an environment in which students can take academic and emotional risks, discuss complex ideas, and build enduring relationships with their teachers and peers. Whether in the classroom, during Advisory, or on the field, students are engaged with their classes, their teachers and peers, and the world around them.
The value of a K–8 school is that our younger children have the opportunity to work with students they admire, and our older students take pride in their role as leaders.
