Research supports the effectiveness of a kindergarten through eighth grade school where children go from being curious 5 year olds to confident, poised and articulate young adults. Our small class size and low teacher-to-student ratio promotes strong and enduring relationships between our teachers and students. In the classroom, on the athletic field, on class trips, or on the playground, our students are surrounded by supportive adults who truly know them and guide them on their 9 year journey of social-emotional growth and academic achievement.
One of Gateway’s goals is to raise socially responsible citizens. This is beautifully expressed in the culture of compassion at our school. Our character education program VOICES provides a guiding framework for this culture. Gateway prizes and nurtures high personal expectations and integrity, respect for others, an understanding of how diversity enriches us, and how our lives affect the world.
Gateway’s elementary program is a nurturing and supportive environment in which children are encouraged to take risks, to ask questions, and to seek answers as they are cultivating intellectual curiosity.
Gateway Middle School provides an environment in which students can take academic and emotional risks, discuss complex ideas, and build enduring relationships with their teachers and peers. Whether in the classroom, during Advisory, on the field, or on the school grounds, our students are confident about engaging with academic material, their personal feelings, and the world around them.
The value of a K–8 school is that our younger children have the opportunity to work with students they can admire, and our older students take pride in their role as leaders.
