Fabric Painting and Arts: $190

THIS WEEK IS FULL

The world is your canvas! Students will create beautiful works of art on fabric, as well as wearable art. We’ll paint, dye, and decorate a variety of fabric pieces. Projects may include a batik walling hanging, a hanging canvas collage, a tie-dye tee-shirt, a felted hat, and a beautiful, accordion-style fan created with lace, ribbons and dried flowers. Taught by Jeannie Wholey.

Jewelry-Making: $210 ($170 for Week 2)

Make it, wear it, share it! Students will create a variety of unique jewelry pieces by making their own beads and embellishments. Using air-dry clay, fabric, yarns, felt, wire buttons and other fun materials, we will make all the components to assemble a finished piece of jewelry. Taught by Jeannie Wholey.

Marine Science/Kayaking: $260

August 4-8 (Week 7) Class meets daily, times vary
Grades: 4th and up SORRY, THIS CLASS IS FULL

Enjoy the wonders of the incredible marine resources in our community. We’ll explore tide pools, visit beaches, view seals at Ano Nuevo, and learn kayaking skills at Elkhorn Slough. Release forms and detailed information will be sent after children are enrolled.


Monday: Gateway School, 1-5 p.m.
Tuesday: Natural Bridges & Seymour Center, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Wednesday: Ano Nuevo, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Thursday: Santa Cruz Harbor, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Friday: Elkhorn Slough, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

On Tuesday and Thursday, children can be directly dropped off and picked up at the listed locations. Children who are attending day camp will be transported by a staff member on those two days. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we will begin and end the day at Gateway School. (We will need parent drivers Wednesday and Friday.) Taught by certified kayaking instructor Kim Powell.

Herbal Cooking and Concoctions: $190

August 4-8 (Week 7) 1-4 p.m.
Grades: 3rd and up
SORRY, THIS CLASS IS FULL

Explore our 1/4 acre organic garden, learn about herbs, and make your own creations! Students use our Life Lab outdoor wood oven and kitchen to make wood-fired pizza, garlic fries, applemint solar cookies, and more. Under the guidance of Gateway Life Lab teacher Caprice Potter, students explore and make their own herbal products, keeping a journal of new recipes and scientific garden knowledge.
