Elementary School Spanish

¡Hola Amigos!

What a wonderful month this has been in  our Spanish classes. For those of you new to Gateway, I want to extend a big “Bienvenidos/Welcome.” It has been a joy getting to know my new students and engaging them in our lessons.

We have been busy this month  building a classroom  environment where the  students feel encourage to use the Spanish they know and to take the risks to learn more. From day one, I have immersed them in Spanish through comprehensible imput, active learning,  reading, writing, speaking and listening activities. Songs and vocabulary development through music is a key component of my program especially for my younger learners. Actively using the language is another component and below is a photo of my 5th graders engaged in a speaking activity where they are asking key questions of each other. In the other photo  my 4th graders  are participating in a speaking activity where they are  responding to my questions using their voices and bodies. Everyone in the class participates in these activities because the language is accessible and the activity is fun. We do laugh a lot together and that helps the children  feel comfortable and open to learning. Looking forward to a wonderful year/ un año fabuloso.
