Kindergarten Adventures February 4, 2020February 4, 2020 Out and About Autumn scavenger hunt. The Kindergartners loved using their detective and scientist skills to look for items and to observe items such as animal tracks. This activity was done in pairs to develop social skills and cooperation. Prior to the trip students learned about what changes take place in autumn and why we would find certain items and not others at this time of the year. Visiting with new friends. Kindergarteners visited our preschool friends next door at Natural Bridges Children’s Center. Science Monarch butterfly studies. After the classroom butterfly hatched from its chrysalis the Kindergartners visited another chrysalis in our Life Lab Garden. They studied the cycle of the monarch butterfly through observations, books and learned key vocabulary words in Spanish, too! What a magic time! Owl pellets. Kindergartners collected the contents of owl pellets for further study. Harvest time! Kindergartners harvested, cleaned and enjoyed the carrot crop that they planted earlier this year in our Life Lab Garden. Walking Mindfulness practice. In our Life Lab Garden they studied the anatomy of the sunflower, in Math they used the seeds to learn about counting and grouping, and in Art they sketched and then painted their interpretations of sunflowers inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers. …and there’s always room for play!
